The illustration depicts a green field in full spring blossom with poppies, daisies, wheat and other wild flowers and grass. There is a huge hare as the focal animal wildlife and smaller size animals such as a mouse, a badger and a bird flying in the sky.
The theme
The theme of rabbits and all sorts of botanical representations in books and drawings for children as well in artifacts is very popular. It is drawing back to Beatrix Potter's iconic and talented illustrations and watercolour studies of the British Lake District fungi and other wildlife, demonstrates her talent for botanical illustration. Beatrix study shows extreme details of the fungi such as the distinctive red cap with white spots and ridged underside. These specimen are not drawn in isolation. Beatrix has convincingly depicted the fungus in a naturalistic setting amidst ferns, ivy, beech leaves, mosses and lichen.
Beatrix Potter naturalism was successfully compined with creative imagination as for her, the countryside was also magical and to her own words, 'the whole countryside belonged to the fairies'. In Beatrix Potter art, realism and fantasy could happily coexist.
Our proposal
Mary Zagoritou Gallery piece of Art 'Hare and Other Animals in the Poppy Field' signed by Julia Rout, is to our opinion more naturalistic than imaginary. However it contains all the magic and beauty of the spring wildlife in the green meadows in full blossom.
These characteristics plus its bright colours. joyful vibe and wildlife richness, all makes it suitable for spring decoration on the sitting room sideboard for Easter display or at the playroom or children bedroom for discussion and storytelling.
