'The Execution of Beloyianis' by Peter de Francia, British Artist (1921-20120, Oil on Board, 1953, Dimensions 124.46x307.34 cms (48.91 x120.78 ins). The painter kept the painting which was never exhibited before until 2011.. Then 'The Execution of Beloyianis' was sold to a private collector in 2011 by James Hyman Gallery and since then become part of the Tate Collection. The painting is currently at Tate Modern. Nicos Beloyianis was executed before dawn along seven other men on 30th of May 1952 in Athens, Greece accused of espionage involving high treason, despite hundreds of thousands of telegrams against the death sentence while an international campaign with the participation of leading personalities such as Picasso, Charlie Chaplin, Jean Paul Sattre, Paul Eluard, Nazim Hikmet and others asked for the cancellation of the military Tribunal's verdict.
