October 2021 Newsletter : Yayoi Kusama, Infinity Mirror Rooms

Mary Zagoritou of Mary Zagoritou Gallery experienced the two of Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirror Rooms and a small presentation of photographs and moving image providing historical context to her mirrored rooms at Tate Modern on 12.10.2021. Infinity Mirrored Room-Filled with the Brilliance of Life alongside Chandelier of Grief, are the names of the rooms, offering the visitor an immersive entrance to the installation space where in the dark one will be transported into Kusama’s unique vision of endless reflections of light, loose orientation and live the illusion of a boundless universe created either of rotating crystal chandeliers in cold crystal white or interchanging blue, purple, pink, red light illuminations imitating the constellations. Yayoi Kusama born 1929 is a Japanese contemporary artist who works primarily in sculpture and installation but also in fashion. Her artwork draws of feminism, minimalism, surrealism, pop art and contains autobiographical, psychological and sexual inspirations. Educated at Kyoto City University of Arts, moved to New York City in 1958 and became a part of the New York avant-garde, pop-art and hippie counterculture movements of the 60s. Since the 1970s she moved back to Tokyo, where she works continually and receives international recognition as Kusama's provocative artistic standpoint was to paint naked models in public happenings with bright coloured polka dots. Kusama's spoke about her art as her pathway to allow her to live and be relieved from her mental illness. Our visit was followed by a rooftop Thames vue specially designed Kusama three course lunch inspired by Kusama's artwork at the Member's restaurant. Both the exhibition and the specially designed lunch have limited capacity and had been pre booked since May 2021 for October 2021.
